Faux pas, as RPN justifies Centre

Published on:

MoS Home RPN Singh committed a faux pas on Wednesday as he sought to reject the BJP’s demand for upgraded security cover to Narendra Modi. Justifying the Centre’s stand, Singh said the NDA Government did not provide adequate security to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, leading to his assassination in 1991.

“I want to tell people in NDA that when they were in power former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was not given security even in the level of a sub-inspector. He had to sacrifice his life. They now talk about security,” he told reporters here. The fact is that it was the caretaker Government led by Chandrasekhar at the Centre at the time. The NDA came into power only in 1998.
