Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday dismissed the Fatwa issued by an Aligarh BJP leader fixing Rs11 lakh bounty on her severed head saying it was an usual affair for her to receive such threats which would only help her surge ahead. Banerjee’s comments came shortly after a BJP youth leader Yogesh Varshney announced a Fatwa blaming her for using force on rallyists during the Ramnavami and Hanuman Jayanti.
“People target me regularly with such words but more they say such things the more we will surge ahead,” she told a rally at Murshidabad adding such offensive statements would only catapult her to power in other States.
“Today we are here. But such statements will take us to Jharkhand, UP, Punjab and then to Delhi,” she said even as the Bengal political parties, including Trinamool Congress, Congress and the left condemned the Aligarh leader’s statements.
“Such statement is unwarranted and only proves how the BJP is trying to grab power in Bengal,” CPI(M)’s Md Salim said adding that there is no need to behead her as she has already bowed her head to the BJP.
Congress MP Pradip Bhattacharya said though there were great differences between his party and that of Banerjee such statements must be condemned and actions must be taken against such people.
The Trinamool on the other hand gave sharp reaction with the State Minister Firhad Hakim saying “Those who have uttered such sentences against Mamata Banerjee will never be spared by the people of Bengal. She is a mass leader and the people will give them a befitting reply.”
Calling for immediate steps against the erring BJP leader, TMC General Secretary and Minister Partho Chatterjee said “The DGP has taken cognisance of this” adding proper actions should be taken to stop people from using such languages.
He added “The language used by the BJP leader only comes from a party that has lost the battle of democracy. The kind of politics they are trying to introduce in Bengal is against the culture of this State and the people of this State will never accept them.”
Meanwhile, the State BJP on Wednesday took out a huge rally demanding immediate arrest of the accused Trinamool politicians in the Narada sting video case. Demanding the arrest of the Trinamool leaders, State BJP president Dilip Ghosh said, “It is more than a month that the court has ordered CBI probe into Narada case. We want the Government to take immediate action against the tainted leaders,” adding the Trinamool Government was already shaking under pressure of corruption and it might not last beyond 2019 general polls.”
