A 40-year-old man and his 11-year-old son died after falling from the balcony of their 23rd-floor apartment while plucking flowers for a religious offering at a residential society in Greater Noida West early Friday morning.
The incident took place at Mahagun Mywoods Society in Gaur City 2, under the jurisdiction of Bisrakh police station. The deceased were identified as Randeep Patra and his son Aarav, residents of Tower 23 of the residential complex.
According to police, the father and son had gone to the balcony to collect flowers for worship.
The family was scheduled to leave early in the morning for Khatu Shyam temple in Rajasthan.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Praveen Ranjan Singh said police received information about the incident through a Police Response Vehicle (PRV) on Friday morning. A police team immediately reached the residential complex and found the two seriously injured after the fall.
They were subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared both dead.
During the preliminary inquiry, the deceased man’s wife told police that the family had planned an early morning visit to Khatu Shyam temple.
Her husband and son had gone to the balcony to pluck flowers for the religious offering when they allegedly slipped from a ladder and fell.
Police said the woman’s statement formed part of the initial inquiry into the incident. The precise sequence of events leading to the fall is yet to be independently established.
Preliminary accounts reported by police suggest that the father and son lost their balance while collecting flowers from the balcony. However, officials have not provided further details about the positioning of the ladder or the circumstances in which the two fell.
The police completed the inquest proceedings and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The examination is part of the procedure to establish the medical cause of death. Further necessary legal formalities are being carried out by Bisrakh police.
The incident has once again brought attention to safety concerns in high-rise residential complexes in Greater Noida West, where several families live in multi-storey apartment buildings with balconies and common access areas at considerable heights.
In a separate incident on October 23, a 13-year-old girl died after falling from the 21st floor of a high-rise residential building at Mahagun Mywoods Society. According to police, the girl, an eighth-grade student, had left her apartment during the early hours while her parents were asleep. Her body was later found on the ground floor.
The preliminary investigation into that incident indicated that the teenager had allegedly been scolded by her parents before leaving the apartment. Police had initiated an inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
However, there is no indication that the two incidents are connected. The circumstances surrounding Friday’s deaths are being examined separately.
The latest incident involved two members of the same family and occurred during preparations for what was supposed to be a religious visit. The father and son were reportedly collecting flowers for the temple before the family was due to leave.
Police have not announced any further findings into the incident. The post-mortem examination and subsequent investigation are expected to establish additional details about the circumstances leading to the deaths.
