little did the driver on board the ill-fated Jaigad-Borivli State Transport bus Shrikant Kamble realise that death was staring at him when he changed his shift and took the wheel on Tuesday evening to get his son admitted to a Mumbai college on the following day.
“We are shocked. We still do not know what has happened,” said Bhau Kamble, the elder brother of Shrikant Kamble, the driver of the ST bus, whose body was the first to be recovered from Anjarle beach on Thursday.
The search agencies have not yet traced the whereabouts of Kamble’s son Mahendra Kamble, who was also in the ill-fated bus which plunged into Savithri river after the collapse of the Mahad bridge.
“My brother was in the day shift. He changed his shift and opted for the Jaigad-Mumbai bus as he wanted to get his son admitted to a Mumbai engineering college. We are yet to come to terms with the tragedy that has befallen our family. The authorities have found the body of my brother, while Mahendra is yet to be traced,” Bahu Kamble said.
