After castigating the Narendra Modi-led dispensation for the “wash-out” of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Friday warned the NDA Government at the Centre that his party workers would resort to a nation-wide “jail bharao” agitation across the country after September 15, if no relief was provided to drought-hit farmers across the country by then.
Addressing a rally of agitating farmers at Osmanabad in Marathwada region, Pawar said: “Now that we have given a memorandum and an ultimatum to the Government, let’s wait for one month. If the BJP-led NDA Government fails to extend relief to the drought-affected and other distressed farmers by September 14, then we will have alternative but to resort to a jail bharo andolan across the country.”
In his severe criticism of the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government for “washed out” Monsoon Session of Parliament, Pawar recalled: “We would go to Parliament every day in the hope that there would be transaction of business. But, the day’s proceedings would end in half an hour to one hour, after repeated adjournments.”
“We were all prepared to raise the distressed farmers’ issues in Parliament. But, the leader of the country (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) would not even come to both the Houses. The leader (Modi) who would begin his public rallies saying “brothers and sisters” has forgotten the brothers and sisters,” Pawar said, while taking a sarcastic dig at Modi.
During the course of his speech, the NCP chief urged the farmers not to commit suicides despite being in distress. “Why should you people commit suicidesIJ Instead, you should instead fight and force the Government to help you come out of distress,” he said.
