Mantralaya, the Secretariat of the Maharashtra Government, witnessed a high drama on Friday afternoon, as a young farmer climbed onto the terrace of the seven-storey building and threatened to commit suicide by jumping from there.

The security personnel at the State Secretariat were taken by surprise, as the young man identified as one Jnyaneshwar Salve from Osmanabad district in Marathwada region, as they saw him standing on the terrace and threatened to leap from there, if they did not facilitate his meeting with either Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis or the Agriculture Minister.

Before long, a huge crowd gathered outside the state secretariat. A huge posse of police, fire brigade personnel and senior State Government officials rushed to the scene and made efforts to bring the youngster down.

During the course of his agitation, Salve threw a chit carrying his mobile number. State Education Minister Vinod Tawade, who was among the persons present on the scene, spoke to the young farmer, assured him that his demands would be looked into and requested him to come down. After considerable persuasion, Salve came down from the terrace.
