In a sign of continuity in the State BJP organisation, former legislator RC Faldu was on Tuesday re-elected as the president for a term of another three years.
BJP’s Central Election Officer Thavarchand Gehlot, MP, who arrived here to oversee the election process, declared Faldu as elected unanimously as all the six nominations filed for the post were in his favour.
Faldu, who has lost the assembly election from Jamnagar rural constituency, is a leuva Patel from Saurashtra, the same caste configuration as former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel who has formed the Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) which had threatened to rock the BJP’s boat in the region but ended up winning just two seats.
He would take over charge of the new innings on April 6, the foundation day of the BJP, in the presence of party president Rajnath Singh who would address a rally here.
Apart from Faldu, all the 26 National Council members from Gujarat were also elected unanimously. The BJP’s National Council members from Gujarat include former Deputy Prime Minister l.K.Advani and leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley.
In his acceptance speech at the state BJP headquarters on Tuesday evening, Faldu said that his main task in the new term would be to win the highest number of lok Sabha seats in the State.
