A Sub-Inspector has been suspended by Faizabad police on Sunday for negligence of duty in connection with horrific incident of gouging out the eyes of a 35-year-old Krishna Dev Varma of Giridih, who was on a pilgrimage to Ayodhya. Varma has alleged that some unidentified persons, probably after injecting sedatives, gouged out his eyes leaving him unconscious near Ayodhya railway station while he was returning home on December 30.
“Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar Singh has been suspended for negligence of duty while several teams have already been constituted to look into the matter,” said Faizabad SSP KB Singh. The SSP, however, has denied speculation that Varma had fallen prey to a gang of human organ smugglers. “We are making thorough investigations, taking all possible aspects into consideration which will largely depend on the facts that will emerge from the statement of the victim,” said the SSP. A team has also left for Ranchi where the victim has been shifted for better medical treatment, the SSP added.
Singh, however, asserted that the SI failed to follow the case seriously after being reported to him assuming it to be an accident. “The SI should have reported the case to the senior officials taking it matter seriously,” said SSP. Meanwhile, an FIR was lodged at Ayodhya police station on Saturday after pressure was built on Faizabad, its counterpart in Giridih. “An FIR has been lodged at the concerned police station against unidentified persons under Sections 341, 342, 326, 307, 228, 336 and 34 of the IPC and a team has also been sent to the victim’s place to investigate the matter,” said DSP Faizabad Dinesh Kumar Dwivedi. Police are looking into the case from all aspects including forced transplantation, he added.
Dwivedi further added, “Considering the seriousness of the case at least four teams have been put to work so that speedy investigation can be done in the matter.” Giridih police on the other hand, coming into action immediately after the incident also sent a team to Faizabad with a copy of statement recorded by Varma. The team has also been directed to provide desired assistance to the Faizabad police, if required. “According to the victim’s family members, initially Faizabad police was reluctant to lodge an FIR but, after I personally talked to the SSP and a copy of the statement recorded by Varma was sent to them, it was finally lodged on Saturday,” said Giridih SP Kranti Kumar Gadhdeshi.
Although, the victim was not able to recall much about the incident, he said that two persons forcefully injected some sedative and when he gathered his consciousness, he was not able to see and was told by others that he was lying in the hospital, said Gadhdeshi. “Since the place of occurrence was in Uttar Pradesh, we cannot do much in this case but we are in regular contact with the Faizabad police coordinating with them and providing as much assistance and inputs from here as we can,” said Giridih SP. Varma, after regaining his consciousness in the district hospital at Faizabad called up his family members and returned to his village. After the news was flashed in the newspapers, Giridih police sprung into action and talked to its counterpart in Faizabad, after which FIR could be lodged in the case on Saturday.
