Former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Friday slammed the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra Government for denying permission to take out a morcha from the August Kranti Maidan to Lokmanya Tilak statue at Girgaum Chowpatty in south Mumbai in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Addressing a pro-CAA rally at the August Kranti Maidan, Fadnavis said: “We had sought permission for taking out a peaceful morcha from the August Kranti Maidan to Lokmanya Tilak statue at Girgaum Chowpatty. But, the State Government denied us permission. The State Government appears to have lost its senses. The Government may prevent us from taking out a rally, but it cannot prevent us from supporting CAA”.
Charging that the Opposition parties were deliberately trying to create unrest in the country, Fadnavis said: “The opposition is deliberately trying to create misunderstanding among Indian Muslims about the Act. For vote bank politics, opposition is trying to create unrest”.
Maintaining that the the CAA would not take away the citizenship of any Indian national, Fadnavis said: “Pakistan has failed to fulfill the assurance during Partition that minorities will be protected in both the countries. Hence, it is our responsibility has to look after the persecuted Hindus in Pakistan because they are our people".
