Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao announced on Wednesday that the new BJP Government would, among other things, do away with the controversial local Body Tax (lBT) and come out with a White Paper on the current final position of the State.
Addressing a joint sitting of the Assembly and Council, the Governor said, “The local Body Tax will be cancelled after making alternate arrangement shortly.” “The Government will issue a White Paper mentioning present financial position of the State, accepted liabilities, future plans and necessary measures for more transparent and effective expenditure,” Rao added.
Dwelling upon the initiatives taken by the new government in dealing with fiscal matters, the Governor said: "Our State requires huge investments for completing many on-going projects in the areas of irrigation, transportation and basic infrastructure. There is a need to reorient public expenditure, eliminate revenue deficit and make more resources available for investment in capital assets".
