After the effective use of Twitter Seva in partnership with Twitter for real time interaction with common man, the Press Information Bureau officials on Friday, were trained on the use of Facebook for good governance. The workshop was inaugurated by Minister of State for Information and Broadc-asting Rajyavardhan Rathore.
"You cannot hide information in today's world. You have to share that information. The idea is to send the right kind of content that people can engage with," said Rathore. He further added that the process of how information is shared from decision makers to disseminators needs to get faster and social media can play a key role as it not only shapes debates on the television but also public opinion.
The officials from PIB said that Facebook has about 150 million monthly active users in India. Social media is expanding tremendously and its potential needs to be tapped to take advantage for
promoting governance with timely dissemination of information.
Commenting on the success of Twitter Seva, they informed that up to 3,50,000 tweets are being tracked per month through 1,500 Twitter handles belonging to various Ministries, departments and State-run companies.
