Fabindia's top officials skip date with Goa Crime Branch

Fabindia’s two top officials skipped the Goa Crime Branch summons on Tuesday even as the investigating agency quizzed the boutique’s store manager in connection with the alleged snooping on Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani.

Chaitrali Sawant, manager of the Fabindia store in Candolim, appeared before the Crime Branch for questioning a day after she was granted anticipatory bail on condition that she would cooperate with the probe.

“The deposition is still going on. We are ascertaining the routine of CCTV and security management practiced by Fabindia and what could have gone wrong with it,” a police official said.

Chief executive officer Subrata Dutta and managing director William Bissell are expected to meet the investigating officers of the Goa Police Crime Branch office at Ribandar on Thursday.

Four junior employees of Fabindia were arrested on Friday and released on bail a day later, after the police couldn’t conclusively prove that the employees had tweaked the angle of the camera and were indulging in voyeursim.

Goa CM laxmikant Parsekar blamed “womanising” lower employees for snoopgate.
