Extend party's reach across nation: PM

Published on:

In an attempt to mobilise all BJP members to contribute to its “growth and expansion”,  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday asked 52 Rajya Sabha members of the party to “actively and energetically” help in extending party’s reach in the country. The PM also asked the BJP elders to maintain “an active profile in social media.”

Addressing a  meeting of BJP members of the Rajya Sabha, Modi  said BJP has created “a precedent” by bringing  in “comparatively younger  MPs” to the RS. Therefore, the Pm said,  they should be working “more proactively and energetically” to communicate and percolate down the achievements of the BJP Government.

The  Prime Minister said  the MPs should be actively involved in the development of  their respective States, but if party wants their services could also  be utilized  elsewhere  too.

A separate class on social media was given to the MPs by those heading the BJP Information Technology  cell.  The MPs were apprised of  different applications including Modi app and the BJP app and other IT advancement. For over an hour, they were also  briefed about  “the reach and reaction” of these applications  in the social media.  The Prime Minister has always been very keen that all party MPs and leaders should have active presence  in the social media and sizeable followings.

Union law and justice minister Ravishankar Parasad, who spoke to media persons after the conclusion of the meeting, said prime minster wanted MPs in RS to play a more active  role in raising important issues relating to their regions and highlighting achievements of the Government’s “pro-poor”  agenda. He asked them to take Government’s policies and programmes to the lowest level of governance.

BJP President Amit Shah inaugurated the meet at the NDMC Bhawan where senior union ministers like Arun Jaitley, M Venkaiah Naidu, Prakash Javadekar, Prasad and other senior ministers who are also RS members were  in attendance. The meeting lasted for four hours.

Shah asked the party's Rajya Sabha members to adopt one lok Sabha seat each where it had lost the last polls and nurse it like its representive in Parliament would with the purpose of ensuring the victory of its candidates in the next general elections.

Amit Shah asked the Rajya Sabha members to adopt one lok Sabha constituency where the party had lost in 2014 and nurse it as if they are the lok Sabha members from there. It will help party win from there. He asked them to spend their MPlAD fund there and work in expanding the organisation.
