Mamata Banerjee’s electoral points-man for the 2021 Assembly election Prashant Kishore has asked the party leaders to redeem to the hilt a general panic on a possible implementation of National Register for Citizens in Bengal.
Credited with restoring some other political parties to their lost glories, Kishore’s company has been assigned by the Trinamool Congress to revive its electoral fortunes in Bengal. The TMC suffered a great deal at the hands of the BJP in this year’s parliamentary elections conceding 12 seats to the saffron outfit.
Even as the Chief Minister asked Kishore to address her elected representatives, he advised them to exploit the general fright among the people over the implementation of NRC. “He has asked the leaders to fan out at the lowest level and tell the people how the BJP is planning not only to throw out the infiltrators but also those who do not fall in line with them,” a member present in the meeting said.
He also has advised the MLAs to tell the people how NRC has been implemented as a vendetta weapon in Assam to throw out the Hindu Bengali population from that State.
“PK (Prashant Kishore) has asked the leaders to prepare the workers with every minute detail from Assam showing how the Bengalis have been targeted by the BJP in that State,” an MLA said adding “he wants us to use the statements of Amit Shah and Dilip Ghosh on bringing NRC in Bengal after getting the Citizen’s Amendment Bill passed in parliament.”
NRC panic has consumed about a dozen people in the State while thousands of people have been crowding the Government offices for the past couple of months to get their documents corrected. Incidentally both Hindus and Muslims have been among the victims of the NRC fright.
