Expel Yogi as UP CM: Congress

Published on:

The Congress on Wednesday demanded the dismissal of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, dubbing his Government a “Ravan” regime which has failed to protect women. The Congress charge   comes against the backdrop of the alleged gangrape of an

18-year-old girl and the subsequent death of her father in police custody in the State’s Unnao district.

“Yogi Adityanath Government is a Government of Ravan, which has failed to protect women. Yogi Adityanath has no right to continue as the Chief Minister. He should be immediately dismissed,” Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said.

Congress said: “It is shocking that the Yogi Govt has withdrawn a rape case against a former BJP Minister. This move will further embolden criminals and jeopardise women’s security in a State that has witnessed a sharp rise in crimes against women.” The party also attached a news report with the tweet about the UP Government deciding to withdraw a rape and kidnapping case against former Union Minister Swami Chinmayananda.

“Beti Bachao’ has now become ‘Beti Ke Pita Ko Bhi Marwao. Bahut Hua Naari Par Vaar..’ is now a Cruel Joke on the Women of India’. Justice for Women in BJP ruled States has become a mirage because BJP’s eco-system is influencing the legal process by building a False Narrative,” Surjewala said.

The party recalled how curfew was imposed in Uttar Pradesh barely three weeks ago over the Kasganj clashes. It also reminded that hundreds of children died in a hospital in the CM’s hometown, and public healthcare is deplorable.

“According to latest NCRB data, Uttar Pradesh reported 4,816 cases of rape—among the highest in the country. The other two States with the highest rates of crimes against women were Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, both ruled by the BJP. 803 incidents of rape and 729 murders were reported in the first two months of Aditynath’s tenure,” the party mentioned.
