As monsoon cheers continue down the season, the last traces of El Nino weather pattern are expected to disappear soon. This is set to pave the way for la Nina early August, said weather experts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), further adding on to the already bountiful rains in the country. As per the last figures of IMD, the country has so far received 4 per cent more rainfall than average.
According to the weather scientists, the El Nino conditions over the equatorial Pacific Ocean have weakened and the possibilities of the much awaited la Nina conditions is gradually being established with the progression of monsoon. This augurs well for heavier rainfall towards the end of the season.
El Nino is the phenomenon of warming of sea-surface temperatures in the Pacific, causing dry weather in some parts of the world and floods in others. A weakening El Nino is likely to give way to la Nina, characterised by unusually cold temperatures of oceans.
Meanwhile, as per country's private forecaster Skymet, a fresh cyclonic circulation is developing over west-central Bay of Bengal. This is expected to move in a northwest direction, towards north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coast. Further, a north-south trough is also likely to develop from North to Central Bay of Bengal. These weather systems collectively are expected to bring good rains over Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh region, said the experts.
Simultaneously, monsoon has also been vigorous over the states of North-east during the past 48 hours, making up for the deficit rains, last week. Several parts of the region, especially in Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh has recorded moderate to heavy rains, with extremely heavy rains. Sikkim and parts of West Bengal are also experiencing torrential rains.
According to Skymet, these rains can be attributed to the monsoon trough which is presently running close to foothills of Himalayas for the last 48 hours. Further on, the trough will gradually start oscillating towards south. As a result, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura that have been recording light to moderate showers will now witness more intense showers.
