Former Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Brijlal and ex-DIG Gyan Singh started their political innings on Wednesday when they joined the BJP. Former BSP MlA from Mirzapur Rajendra Singh Patel too joined the party.

These new entrants joined the BJP in presence of party’s UP incharge Om Mathur and State president laxmikant Bajpai at the State party headquarters here. Welcoming the ex-policemen in the party, Mathur and Bajpai said several other bureaucrats and senior leaders from other parties would be joining the party soon.

Brijlal, who retired from Indian Police Services in November last year said he was impressed with the style of working of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hence took the decision to join the party. “I want to serve the public through political system,” he told reporters here after joining the BJP.

The former DGP, who was once close to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati, said he has no such political ambition to contest the elections but if party wanted he would obey that decision of party leadership. Brijlal, a dalit, is a native of Sidharthnagar district and is expected to become a new Dalit face of the party in  UP.

Brijlal, a 1977 batch IPS officer, was DGP of the State from October 2011 during the end of the BSP Government in the State. He was removed from the DGP’s post after Akhilesh Yadav became Chief Minister. Ex-DIG Gyan Singh also joined the BJP and said he would serve the people. He too appreciated Modi for his work.
