Taking the first step towards contesting the coming Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has announced its first candidate for Aurangabad (East) Assembly constituency.
The choice of former Transport Minister and noted Dalit leader Gangadhar Agade indicates party’s well thought out strategy of carrying the other weaker sections of the State. Agade was earlier with Panthers Republican Party and served as Transport Minister in Congress-NCP alliance Government. Agade who met the MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi in Hyderabad said that Maharashtra badly needs a third alternative to face the Congress- NCP and Shiv Sena and BJP alliances.
“Only a Dalit and Muslim unity can provide the third alternative”, he said. Agade rued that the Congress-NCP alliance badly let down all the weaker sections of Maharashtra over the last fifteen years by not doing anything for their welfare. “We are looking towards Asaduddin Owaisi with great hope as he has been raising his voice for Dalits at the national level”, he said.
Meanwhlie, MIM has also started focusing on Sholapur, another district with good concentration of minority votes. Party kicked off its election campaign at Sholapur with a massive public meeting addressed by Akbaruddin Owaisi, MIM floor leader in Telangana Assembly at Home Maidan last evening. Urging the weaker sections including Dalits and Muslims to come together and fight for their rights and due share Akbaruddin Owaisi said that Maharashtra had a sizeable population of both the sections and have been playing a major role in forming the successive Government.
