Maharani Garima Singh, the estranged first wife of Maharaja Amethi Sanjay Singh is fighting on a BJP ticket from Amethi and is extremely confident of winning the elections. What makes the contest in this constituency an interesting one is that the Maharaja’s current wife Ameeta Singh is also in the fray with many terming it a queen vs queen affair.
Garima told The Pioneer that she is getting a very positive response from the people of Amethi. “I am getting a lot of affection from the people of Amethi and it is now up to them to decide whom they vote.”
Asked about the challenges that she has been facing as she has stepped out for the first time to fight the elections as a public figure, she said, “life has certainly changed.”
Anand Vikram, her son and the campaign manager, said, “It is a powerful combination of the party’s own standing and the injustice which my mother has been facing for the past several years since my father closed the doors on her in 1990. For 21 years she never got to enter her own house. The public has also supported us on account of the problems that we have been facing in the past four years. On ground research carried by us shows that people are in favour of my mother.”
He said the tagline of their campaign is “chuppi todo ab muh kholo, Rani Garima ki Jai bolo”.
“People feel that what happened to Garima Singh should not have happen to them and hence the public sympathy is out there,” he said.
Anand said it is not a battle between two queens as is being made out to be. “We want Ameeta to fight the elections against my mother because she can go about saying that she sacrificed her chance of fighting the elections for her daughters” he added.
