Former Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday filed a civil defamation suit of Rs100 crore against Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
Erstwhile close aide of Gogoi, Sarma had shifted his alliance to the BJP a few months ago.
Sarma said that he would file another criminal defamation suit against the Assam CM soon for defaming him in the public with some false allegations.
“For last several days, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has been telling certain things about me like I am involved in Saradha scam, I am involved in louis Barger scam and that I am an accused in many cases. I think it is not justified on my part to let him continue to allege against me and to remain silent to his allegations,” said the former Minister.
“I have filed a civil defamation case against him over this and in a day or two I am going to file a criminal defamation case against him in this regard,” said Sarma on Tuesday.
It may be mentioned here that Himanta Biswa Sarma had been one of the close and trusted lieutenants of Gogoi since the Congress came to power in 2001 Assembly elections.
