Chandrashekhar Verma, the absconding husband of former Social Welfare Minister Manju Verma, surrendered in the court on Monday and was sent to judicial remand. After this it is strongly believed that she too could surrender very soon as a warrant against her is with the police.
Verma was wanted in connection with the infamous sexual harassment of minor girls at a Governmentrun shelter home in Muzaffarpur and had gone underground for over three months when his name surfaced in this case with his call detailed record showed he was in constant touch with the main accused Brajesh Thakur.
He was also accused of visiting the shelter home all alone and spending good time behind closed door.
His wife Manju Verma, who was then Social Welfare Minister in Nitish Kumar cabinet had to quit after his husband’s name figured in this case and many victim girls alleged about the visit of a “pot-bellied uncle” and sexual assault by him.
This reference was supposed to be about Verma who came on the radar on the investigating agency CBI.
After the Patna high court rejected his anticipatory bail petitions and Supreme Court expressed displeasure over police inaction in arresting him, Verma had little option left but to surrender in Manjhaul sub-divisional court.
Warrant was issued against the former Minister this month after her anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the high court.
The police had filed a cas against her under Arms Act after the recovery of 50 cartridges of different bores, some of them banned for public use, from her home in her constituency Cheria Beriarpur during a search operation.
Manju Verma is also absconding after submitting her resignation to the CM in August.
A warrant was issued after Begusarai police filed FIR against her in September and the high court turned down her anticipatory bail petition.
