Ex-IAS officer quizzed in Sharada chit fund case

A former IAS officer was on Thursday interrogated by the CBI in the Sharada chit fund case. The former officer was asked to explain a Government order a few years ago that apparently favoured the Sharada group.

The former bureaucrat, then secretary in the Home Department was in charge of affairs when the Bengal Government had issued a circular asking the State libraries to keep newspapers of the Sharada group in their study halls.

The former official was asked to disclose the facts that led to the stated order. He was asked to explain upon whose directions his department had issued such circulars that finally benefited the Sharada group, sources said.
