Ex-AMU VC calls for modernisation of madrasa education

Madrasa education in Uttar Pradesh should be modernised to bring in positive changes in society, according to former Aligarh Muslim University vice-chancellor Lt Gen (retired) Zameer Uddin Shah. While speaking at an event held at Lodhi road in Delhi under the banner of "Madarsa to Modern Education", Zameer said UP Muslims are facing two challenges in context of education: Opening quality schools and modernising madrasas by overhauling its curriculum.

Responding to meet the challenges, South Indian-headquartered Manappat Foundation chairman Ameer Ahamed said his organisation has been working in this direction in Phulat in Muzaffarnagar in UP since August last year.

"The projects of Vision 2040 and the Vision International Academy provide educational platform for hafiz-e-Quran and madrasa passout students to complete formal 10th and 12th examinations. The centre provides extensive coaching to such students for admission into reputed higher education institutions," said Ahamed.

Vision 2040 is long term transformational project to make substantial impact in the field of socio-economic uplift of underprivileged and marginalised section of the population of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam, he said.
