An enquiry setup to assess the damage to a bungalow alloted to former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and document missing articles and fittings of Estate department, failed to gain steam as the officer heading the probe went on leave citing health reasons.
The incident created a huge controversy after Estate department escorted media persons to 4, Vikramaditya Marg bungalow allotted to Akhilesh Yadav as former CM and detailed how the Samajwadi Party chief damaged the entire house and took away costly fittings, tiles etc before vacating the house. Akhilesh was forced to vacate the bungalow on the directions of Supreme Court.
Akhilesh’ father Mulayam Singh Yadav along with former CMs including Union Home minister Rajnath Singh, Mayawati, ND Tewari, and Kalyan Singh also had to vacate their respective bungalows.
After orders were issued by the UP government, the PWD set up a five-member committee headed by Chief Engineer (Housing) in PWD, Sudhanshu Kumar on Tuesday last and initiated a probe to assess the total loss inflicted to the bungalow by Akhilesh.
In the process, Head of PWD, VK Singh took outan order that the enquiry would be overseen by Principal Engineer (planning and design) AK Sharma.
Besides Kumar, the committee also included MD of Nirman Nigam, Rajan Mittal, Chief Architect and engineers of Electrical and Civil wing.
However, finding the probe too hotto handle as it concerfned a former CM, Kumar proceded on medical leavea day after being asked to head the probe. As Mittal was senior to Kumar, it was decided that he would be replaced by someone else so that probe could start.
When contacted on Friday, VK Singh said that he was not aware of the development in the probe as it was being overseen by Sharma. Interestingly, Sharma too avoided media contactand was not available for his comments on Friday. Sources said that the probe was yet to start and officers were waiting to gauge the mood of their political bosses before making any headway.
