End of road for defiant Bhunia in Congress?

Finally the Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee is taking steps against senior MlA and Public Accounts Committee Chairman Manas Bhunia for anti-party activities.

launching a scathing attack on Bhunia PCC president Adhir Chowdhury on Friday said a letter had been written to the party High Command to suspend and then expel Bhunia who was serving the interests of Trinamool Congress by engineering a rift in the Congress Party.

Bhunia a former PCC president had earlier defied the Congress leadership and assumed the PAC post after he was allegedly requested by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to do do. Congress which had fought the recently concluded State elections in alliance with the left Front had left the post for the CPI(M).

Insiders however said Bhunia was forced to accept the Chief Minister’s request to avert arrest in murder case which was slapped on him during the elections when a TMC worker was shot dead at Sabang constituency from where he finally won by huge votes.

“The Trinamool Congress is using Manas Bhunia as its agent in the Congress and we do not want such elements in the party,” Chowdhury said adding the PCC had recommended his suspension and “the final decision will be taken by the high command.”

When asked to as to whether such decision would split the Congress vertically Chowdhury said “we do not want such people in the party and the Congress will never tolerate indiscipline even if that means starting from a scratch once again.”

On Thursday Bhunia’s younger brother Vikash Bhunia the West Midnapore district Congress president had joined the Trinamool along with all the elected Congress members of Sabang Panchayat Samiti.

When contacted Bhunia said he had received no communication from the party on his suspension.
