Not only Saradha but other scams also stare straight in the face of ruling Trinamool Congress if the latest revelations that Transport Minister Madan Mitra’s son Swarup Mitra was also involved in ponzi deals are to go by. According to reports, the ED and Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO)were planning to question Swarup regarding his connections with the chit fund company iCore group. The senior Mitra, a high-profile Bengal Minister and a close aid of CM Mamata Banerjee, was summoned by the CBI in connection with the Saradha scam. He is currently in hospital and said on Sunday that “in a few days I will be fit.”
Reacting to his son’s reported involvement in Rs55-crore scam and aping a similar statement made by his political boss Mamata Banerjee, senior Mitra on Sunday said, “Neither my sons nor am I involved in any chit fund business. If otherwise it is proved then I will resign.” The ED and SFIO were probing whether Saradha funds were diverted to iCore or any other group. Swarup Mitra allegedly worked as an associate director of the group.
