Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of CPI(M) secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, is being interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate official at Kochi  in connection with the gold smuggling scam, drug trafficking and money laundering that rocked the State recently.

The marathon questioning that began at 11 hrs on Wednesday morning was continuing even at the time of going to Press at 8 pm.

Bineesh reached the ED’s zonal office at Kochi by 10 30 and was immediately ushered into the reception by the sleuths.

The ED had collected details of his telephonic conversations with Mohammed Anoop, one of the accused in the Bangalore drug trafficking case in which names of some film stars too figured. Bineesh and Anoop were in contact with each other through telephone calls, confirmed the NIA and the Customs.

The link between Anoop and T K Ramis, an accused in the gold smuggling, took the sleuths to the doorsteps of Bineesh who is said to own a couple of financial companies in Bangalore. The cops suspect that Bineesh was involved in gold smuggling and helped Swapna Suresh, the kingpin of the racket.

Meanwhile the NIA Special Court in Kochi on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of Swapna, Sarat and Sandeep Nair till September 23.
