Winning elections with thumping majority notwithstanding, the Mamata Banerjee Government continued to suffer embarrassments with the Enforcement Directorate netting yet another Trinamool Congress leader in connection with the alleged Rs 10,000 crore ration scam.

The ED sleuths on Friday arrested TMC leader Anisur Rahman, along with his brother and party associate Alif Noor, alias Mukul for their alleged role in the ratio scam sources said. While Anisur considered a “powerful man” is the TMC Block President of De Ganga in North 24 Parganas his brother is a party worker.

Anisur was arrested after being subjected to 15-hours intense grilling “during which he would not provide satisfactory answers to the queries made to him,” officials said.

Block presidents in the TMC hierarchy are considered pretty powerful organizationally and enjoy the status of an MLA, insiders say. “A leader who fails to get the MLA ticket is accommodated generally as a block president for his clout,” said a North 24 Parganas leader.

Rahman was arrested in consequence of search operations and interrogations of other TMC functionaries including their jailed leader Sheikh Shahjahan --- of Sandeshkhali fame --- Bakibur Rahman, Anisur Rahman, and Barik Biswas.
