The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday filed revision petition in Delhi High Court challenging the 2G trial court’s discharge of former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his family-controlled Sun TV Group in the Aircel-Maxis scam. In the petition, ED said the trial court’s order erred in considering many violations under Prevention of Money laundering Act (PMlA).
With this move of ED, the SUN TV Group’s attached properties worth Rs.750 crore would remain with the agency. CBI is also expected to move Delhi High Court soon against the discharge order. ED’s petition argued that the discharge order by 2G Court Judge OP Saini did not address many provisions of crime and money laundering charges as per the PMlA and the statement of admission of money laundering by the accused persons and company.
The ED said money-laundering in Aircel-Maxis scam is a stand-alone case and the discharge or acquittal of the accused persons in Prevention of Corruption Act or other cases could not be affected.
