The Election Commission issued a notice to Tamil Nadu CM and AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the December 4 Yercaud by-poll.

The poll panel sought her explanation by 5 pm on Tuesday on why action should not be taken against her for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct provisions by making poll promises. A complaint was filed by DMK in this regard.

In its petition to the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Electoral Officer, the DMK sought action against Jayalalithaa for alleged violations of the model code of conduct and abuse of power during her campaigning for the Yercaud Assembly by-election recently. The notice stated Jayalalithaa, during her campaign for the AIADMK candidate, announced new schemes at Kootathupatti village.
