Upping his ante against Election Commission for banning his rallies in the State, senior Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam khan said that EC had initiated proceedings against him at the behest of Congress.
“The Congress is using EC to tame Samajwadi Party leaders the same way as it had used CBI against Mulayam Singh Yadav. I have no hesitation to say that Election Commission has taken one-sided action against me,” Azam Khan told reporters in Rampur on Sunday. He alleged that the EC did not bother to go through his reply on the notice it had sent to me and took the decision against him in a haste. “I will move the court against the injustice of the EC,” he declared.
Mohammad Azam khan was banned from holding the public meetings in the State following his remarks about Kargil martyrs which were taken as the communal comments to effect the voting in the lok Sabha elections. As many as three FIRs had already been registered against him in Rampur, Shamli and Ghaziabad districts.
Khan, in a vitriolic attack on the EC, a rarity in political domain, further alleged that it was a deliberate attempt to gag him. “It is infringement on the fundamental right to speech and detrimental to the democratic norms of the country,” he said.
He also pointed out that notices were issued against him and RlD leader Ajit Singh on the similar charges but the ban was imposed against him only. “Why Ajit Singh escaped the action,” he asked.Reiterating his views , Khan said he stood by what he had said as all the communities and religions had same rights over the country.“My community had the same contribution in the freedom struggle as any other community,” he said.
Coming down heavily on the Congress for influencing the EC, he said it was his party which removed it from the state and same would now be done at the national level.
