Ranchi: The Durga Puja festival, marked by devotion and religious fervour, concluded with the immersion of idols across the city on Tuesday. Idols of Goddess Durga and other deities installed at various puja pandals were immersed in ponds and other designated water bodies following traditional rituals.
Before the immersion, puja committees performed religious ceremonies at their respective pandals at the Jharkhand capital. Devotees then loaded the idols of Goddess Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya onto vehicles and took them in processions to designated water bodies, including Bada Talab, Chadri Talab, Argora Talab and Jagannath Talab.
The immersion processions were marked by devotional songs, dancing and chants of “Jai Mata Di”. At the water bodies, devotees offered collective prayers, performed aarti and adorned the idols with flower garlands before bidding farewell to the deities. They prayed for peace, prosperity and happiness in their homes and families, urging Goddess Durga to return the following year.
Around 176 puja pandals were set up across Ranchi this year, with idols of the five principal deities installed for worship. The administration and the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) had designated separate water bodies for the immersion of idols by different puja committees.
According to civic arrangements, around 1,000 clay idols were immersed in the designated ponds in accordance with religious customs.
To ensure the safe conduct of the immersion process, the district administration deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams at the water bodies. Officials kept a close watch on the proceedings, while RMC personnel remained on duty to manage the arrangements.
Municipal teams were also deployed to retrieve the immersed idols from the water and maintain cleanliness at the ponds. Sanitation workers remained present to ensure that the water bodies were cleaned and the surroundings kept tidy throughout the immersion process.
