A second year student of Dyal Singh College was allegedly raped by her friend in the East Delhi's Kalyanpuri area. The incident came to light when the girl who was around three months pregnant reached a private clinic for an abortion late evening on Wednesday. The hospital authorities called up the police as they felt something fishy.
The 18-year-old victim had visited the clinic to get the child aborted. The hospital authorities informed the police who arrived at the spot. The victim's parents lodged a complaint with the police thereafter.
The police said that the victim was studying B.Com Honours and had developed friendship with the accused identified as Atul sometime back. The accused raped her on several occasions on one pretext or the other. A medical examination of the girl confirmed rape. The girl had apparently not told her parents about the pregnancy. Thus, she visited the lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for the abortion alone.
Following the complaint registered by the family member of the victim a case under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Kalyanpuri Police Station. The accused Atul was later arrested by the police.
