The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has rejected allegations that CVC clearance was not obtained for the appointment of IRS officer Sanjiv Gautam in CBI as DIG. The DoPT was responding to The Pioneer report dated November 7, 2016 and titled ‘No Record of CVC approval on CBI DIG appointment’.
“The appointment of Sanjiv Gautam, as DIG in CBI has been done as per due procedure. Selection Committee headed by CVC in its meeting held in April 28, 2014 recommended Sanjiv Gautam’s appointment as DIG in CBI, which was approved by the competent authority on May 9, 2014. Vigilance clearances have been taken from his Parent cadre ie: Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue and Ministry of Defence where he was working as Private Secretary to then MoS Defence,” said DoPT.
The Pioneer’s report was based on DoPT’s response to the RTI query by noted activist Vineet Narain’s Kalchakra magazine. In the RTI reply, the DoPT said it had no record of CVC clearance granted to Gautam’s for his appointment in the CBI.
