Don't trust BJP, Modi, they will divide country: Sonia in TN

Published on:

Congress president Sonia Gandhi warned the electorate of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday not to hand over the reigns of the country to the BJP or its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Addressing an election meeting at Kanyakumari, which has a predominant Roman Catholic community population, Sonia asked the people not to trust either the BJP or Modi since they were to divide the country on communal lines. “The sacrifices made by Indira Gandhi and my husband Rajiv Gandhi should not go in vain. Never believe what the BJP and its PM candidate tell you,” exhorted Sonia.

Interestingly, her campaign here was limited only to this meeting at Kanyakumari. Sources revealed that the venue was selected based on the Roman Catholic population in the constituency. Elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, Congressmen avoid using the names of Sonia or Rahul during campaigns. The Congress has three MlAs from this district.
