'Don't invite PM to Vadodara literary fest'

The Govind Pansare Abhivadan Samiti (GPAS), a leftist front in the field of literature, on Wednesday appealed to the organisers of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan not to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to any of the programmes being hosted by it as part of the annual Marathi literary meet scheduled to be held in Vadodara in Gujarat next month.

In an appeal made to the organisers of the forthcoming Maratahi literary meet, three prominent personalities associated with the Govind Pansare front --- Prakash Reddy, Subodh More and Yogesh Kamble – stated: “We request the Sammelan organisers not to invite Modi either to the inauguration or the concluding function of the literary meet in view of his silence over the continued attacks against writers across the country”

“We have witnessed and are witnessing attacks against writers under the Narendra Modi regime. Secular, progressive and rational-thinking people have been facing a major challenge from mobsters.

The Government is thrusting Manuwavi cadres on the government organisations dealing with cinema, theatre and publication of text books. When all these things are happening, Modi is maintaining a stoic silence,” GPAS leaders said.
