DMK-Congress alliance a rejected front: Jayalalithaa

In what could be a major setback for the Congress in Tamil Nadu, G Kalan, general secretary, INTUC, joined the AIADMK on Sunday. Kalan, a prominent Congress leader in the State called on Jayalalithaa at Veda Nilayam , the AIADMK general secretary’s residence at  Poes Garden in Chennai and told Amma  his plans to work for her party.

later in the day, while addressing an election rally at Coimbatore, Jayalalithaa lambasted the DMK-Congress alliance as a front rejected and detested by the people. “Karunanidhi and the Congress are trying to hoodwink the people. When it is election time, the DMK and the Congress forge an alliance and approach you with all kind of promises. Please remember that Karunanidhi has not kept any promises made by him to the people of the State,” said Jayalalithaa.

On Sunday, her focus was on how Karunanidhi and his family swindled and decimated the primary cooperative societies in Tamil Nadu. “During the 2006 to 2011 DMK regime, the autonomy and independence of primary cooperative societies in the State, which are the life line of the poor farmers, were throttled by Karunanidhi and his family. It was the AIADMK government which restored the autonomy and independence of these societies,” said Jayalalithaa.

Quoting from the report of the then Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjit Singh Sarkaria who probed the charges of corruption against Karunanidhi levelled by MG Ramachandran in 1972, Jayalalithaa said Karunanidhi was described by Justice Sarkaria as a king of scientific corruption. “The DMK-Congress alliance was behind many Himalayan corruptions including 2G scam, Coal field auction scam, Commonwealth Games scam, and hundreds of such corruptions,” pointed out Jayalalithaa.

Jayalalithaa reminded the people that Karunanidhi has been blaming the Congress for the 2G spectrum and coal field auction scams. “If that is the case, what is the justification behind the present alliance between the DMK and the CongressIJ” she asked.

“Karunanidhi is corruption; Corruption is Karunanidhi” charged the AIADMK general secretary. She reminded the people who had gathered at the CODISSIA ground at Coimbatore that during the 2006 to 2011 DMK regime, the State experienced 10 to 14 hours of power cut daily. “My government made TN a power surplus State. I request you to vote for the AIADMK so that all your dreams of a happy and healthy life as well as a bright future for your children could be fulfilled. Since you are the only relations I have in this world, all my efforts will be to make you happy and content,” said Jayalalithaa.
