A jubilant DMK chief M Karunanidhi described Monday's Supreme Court verdict which negated the appointment of Bhavani Singh as the Special Public Prosecutor to represent the Tamil Nadu Government as a victory for honesty and justice. S Ramadoss, founder of the Vanniyar-dominated PMK called for the resignation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam in the backdrop of the apex court's verdict.
"Justice should prevail. Today's verdict is a victory for honesty and justice," Karunanidhi (93) told reporters at Chennai on Monday. He said the Supreme Court verdict is a big victory for his party as its general secretary K Anbazhagan had approached the Supreme Court, challenging the appointment of Bhavani Singh as SPP.
Ramadoss was more vocal in hailing the verdict and termed it as a victory for justice. "Bhavani Singh acted entirely as Jalayalithaa's private lawyer during the trial on the appeal in the Karnataka High Court. Hence, everyone felt that this case should be tried again. Justice Madhan lokur has also mentioned this in his judgment. The three-judge Bench has said that there is no need of retrial to avoid any further delay. At the same time, the Bench said that the arguments presented by Bhavani Singh need not be considered and gave detailed guidelines. Anbazhagan and the Karnataka State Government should present their arguments in writing to Justice Kumarasamy. The judge should ensure that their views are reflected in the judgment which should take into account that corruption is the biggest social evil. Hence, we can hope that the judgment will ensure justice," said Ramadoss in a statement.
But, the AIADMK leaders said the Supreme Court order is a victory for the party and Jayalalithaa. "The apex court said that there was no need for re-trial or fresh hearing. That means the Karnataka High Court will pronounce the verdict soon. We are all confident of Amma coming out with flying colours in the case," CR Saraswathi, AIADMK spokesperson told The Pioneer.
Aavadi Kumar, AIADMK's senior spokesman, said the DMK was trying to delay the delivery of justice by creating obstacles in the case. "Bhavani Singh was appointed by the Karnataka Government and the Special Court verdict was based on his arguments. Anbazhagan wanted to delay the appeal proceedings and that's why he approached the apex court," said Kumar.
