DMK, allies to protest in LS against NEET, hydrocarbon plants

nThough the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre  has a comfortable majority in the Lok Sabha, the Tamil Nadu brigade led by the DMK is all set to make life difficult for the ruling party.

The Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) led by the DMK has 37 members and it is expected to win the rescinded Vellore Lok  Sabha as and when it is held making the rally to 38.

“We were able to sustain the anti-Modi campaign throughout the last few years abd in every nook and corner of the State,” said RS Bharati, Rajya Sabha member as well as the organising secretary of the DMK.

The immediate target of the DMK  is winning the Local Body elections in Tamil Nadu as and when they are held . “This will be  precursor to the assembly election to be held in 2021 which we are sure to sweep,” said a senior party leader. Hence the DMK and its allies would keep the heat going on against the Modi government in both Houses of Parliament.

The DMK has promised to nominate Vaiko, the MDMK leader as a member of Rajya Sabha when election is due  on July 2019. Vaiko is expected to make life difficult for the ruling dispensation at the Centre. He had already assured the people that he would make the Centre agree to  exempt Tamil Nadu from the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) ,  the qualifying examination for dmission to under graduate and post graduate courses in the country’s medical colleges.

Vaiko has already “fired”  warning shots  by asking the Prime Minister to ensure the safety f the minority communities in the country. He condemned the BJP and Modi for the attack on a couple belonging to the minority community at Bhopal allegedly by cow vigilantes.  Adding headache to the Modi government would be Thol Thirumavalavan, the VCK leader who scraped through from Chidambaram constituency by a margin of 3,219 votes, the smallest margin in Tamil Nadu.

The southern bench is a myriad combination of youth and experience. MK Kanimozhi, former DNK chief Karunanidhi’s daughter by his third wife, Dayanidhi Maran,  Karunanidhi’s grand nephew, A Raja, the 2G spectrum fame former Union Minister, Tamizhachi Thangapandian who was  Karuinanidhi’s beloved disciple and  Kalanidhi Veersamy, son of former DMK minister Arcot Veerasamy are the leading lights in the DMK array.

The Lok Sabha would see the DMK and allies agitating against the proposed hydrocarbon extraction projects for which the government has given approvals and the Indian Nutrino Observatory coming up at Theni.
