In an ideal instance of the State administration getting increasingly servile to political interests instead of minding its constitutional obligations, the District Magistrate of Purulia on Thursday entered into a heated argument with Union Minister Babul Supriyo not only refusing to entertain his complaints but also telling him bluntly that he would only take instructions from the State Government.
The incident took place in Purulia when vehicles bound for the ground where BJP president Amit Shah was to address a rally got stuck in a “Government created traffic jam.” According to sources the police unnecessarily blocked other roads to clog the one leading to the rally ground.
When the Minister rushed to the spot he found the DM simply sitting idle inside his vehicle and not intervening. When asked to sort out the mess he said, “that is not my duty, I have told the SP to take steps.” When the Minister told him to accompany him to the clogged bottleneck he said he was “not supposed to take your directions,” adding “I will only take directions from the State Government.” Heated arguments continued for quite a few minutes between the two.
