DJB ropes in Govt agencies to use treated effulent

Published on:

In order to bridge the gap between demand and supply of potable water in the Capital, the DJB has decided to sell its treated effluent (grey water) for which it has written to Government agencies such as PWD, NDMC, EDMC, NTPC and others.

"Through this step, we aim to widen the usage of treated effluent, produced at DJB's Sewage Treatment Planst (STPs), for non-potable purposes, such as irrigation, horticulture, power plants, water bodies, construction activities etc. This will make additional water available for potable purpose," said a DJB official.

In order to aid the purchasing of the treated effluent, DJB will also display the quality of its treated effluent, mark levels of its Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and

Suspended Solids (SS). The treated effluent shall be

sold at certain terms and conditions — the rates of grey water shall be charged at Rs 7.00 per Kl.
