Din in Kerala House over bar bribery scam

The 14th Session of the 13th Kerala Assembly, which was supposed to be a full-fledged Budget Session, was on Monday, the very first day of the session, rescheduled due to the June 27 Assembly by-poll in Aruvikkara amidst the din created by the Opposition over the bar bribery scam pertaining to the charge that two Ministers of the Congress-led UDF Government had taken crores of rupees as bribe from bar owners.

The business advisory committee rescheduled the session as per which the House, adjourned amidst the noisy scenes created by the Opposition, would reconvene on June 29. The CPI(M)-led Opposition lDF  protested against the decision saying that a by-poll was not reason enough to rearrange an important session of the House.

As per the original schedule, the Session was to be held in two phases from June 8 to July 2 and from July 20 to July 30. The 2015-16 Budget was presented by Finance Minister Mani amidst the unprecedented chaos in the House on March 13.

The Opposition members had arrived in the House on Monday carrying placards and banners accusing the Congress-led UDF Government of trying to sabotage the Vigilance investigations into the charge against Finance Minister KM Mani, chairman of the Kerala Congress (M), and Excise Minister K Babu of the Congress.
