Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s October 30 concert at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium has received clearance from Delhi Police following a review of security arrangements and discussions with the organisers.
The approval, granted on Friday, October 23, allows the Delhi leg of Dosanjh’s Aura India Tour to proceed as scheduled. According to reports, the police and organisers held multiple meetings to address security concerns, with the event team presenting detailed plans for managing the concert.
The clearance came a day after police initially refused permission for the show, citing specific threat-related inputs, security commitments during the festive season and other law-and-order concerns. The reversal follows further discussions on the arrangements required to conduct the event.
In a letter dated October 21, the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) informed ticketing partner BookMyShow that the request to organise the October 30 concert could not be approved.
The letter referred to “specific threat-related inputs” and the police force’s security and law-and-order responsibilities during the festive season, along with other concerns.
A report by Hindustan Times, citing an unnamed senior police officer, said a hoax bomb threat email sent to several Delhi schools on October 15 was among the factors considered. The email reportedly warned students against attending Dosanjh’s concert and included pro-Khalistani slogans. Six schools were reported to have received the messages.
However, the police letter did not publicly detail the specific threat inputs, and the reported email was described as a hoax. The precise nature of the security concerns was not officially disclosed.
Despite the initial denial, Dosanjh continued promoting his Delhi show on social media. On October 23, he shared a promotional video for the Aura India Tour, reiterating the October 30 date at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and adding a “seven days to go” countdown.
The concert listing also remained available on BookMyShow while the permission issue was being reported. The subsequent police clearance has now resolved the immediate uncertainty over whether the Delhi show could take place as scheduled.
The Delhi concert is part of Dosanjh’s multi-city Aura India Tour, which follows his international tour dates. The India leg includes performances in cities such as Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Lucknow, with a Chandigarh show also announced.
Dosanjh previously performed at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 26 and 27, 2024, with reports at the time putting attendance at more than 40,000 people on each night. The scale of the earlier shows underlines the crowd-management requirements involved in organising another large concert at the venue.
With police permission now granted following the security review, the October 30 Delhi concert is set to proceed, subject to the arrangements agreed upon by the authorities and organisers.
