A portion of a long-abandoned building on Rani Rashmoni Road in central Kolkata collapsed on Tuesday morning, raising concerns about the structural integrity of several old properties in the area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, police confirmed.
Authorities revealed that the building had earlier been declared unsafe by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), which had also advised the owners to undertake essential repairs.
“The building appeared vacant at the time of collapse, preventing what could have been a serious tragedy,” a police officer at the scene noted.
