Controversial Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh is back to taunt the Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s probable prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections Narendra Modi. This time he alleged the Gujarat Government of being engaged in fake encounters to make Modi a hero.
Addressing the mediapersons on the sidelines of a Congress function in Bangalore on Tuesday, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister alleged that the Gujarat Government was involved in fake encounters. He said, “There is not only one, but six fake encounters done by the Gujarat Government. The Government has carried out fake encounters to raise the profile of Modi to make him a hero.”
“The unfortunate part was that the fake encounters had taken place because of wrong information fed by the then joint director of Intelligence Bureau in collusion with the Gujarat Police,” he added.
Singh, who has become in-charge of Karnataka Congress, was in Bangalore after he took over the charge. The Congress general secretary demanded that if Gujarat Police officers are in jail because of fake encounters, the then Joint Director of IB, if he is part of the conspiracy, should also be charge-sheeted.
Referring to a case Singh said the Sadik Jamal case which has not come into the notice of media when the IB on record handed him over to the Gujarat Police, which allegedly killed him a few days later and showed it as an encounter and “made out a story” that Jamal had planned to kill Modi.
“The whole idea of Gujarat Police, with (the then) Joint Director of IB working together, was only to raise the profile of Modi so that he becomes a “hero” in the minds of all those who believe that acts of terror are being done only by Muslims,” Singh alleged.
Earlier in the day, Singh also took on the BJP and said that the party would instigate communal riots in Congress-ruled States ahead of the 2014 lok Sabha elections as the Opposition party feels that it cannot win without “communalising” the polls.
Addressing the general body meeting of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee the senior Congress leader claimed that BJP now feels that it cannot win the polls without communalising it.
Meanwhile, the ruling Congress in Karnataka has initiated the process to identify party candidates in all the lok Sabha segments in the State, where it’s targeting to win 20-25 seats. At a general body meeting of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, KPCC president G Parameshwara said observers have also been appointed in each of the 28 constituencies.
