Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Thursday took a dig at Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for his comments asking the CAG not to sensationalise its findings to get into headlines and also his handling of the blackmoney matter and also the Jan Dhan scheme. Singh said that if the Government has guts then it should reveal names of black money accounts.
Singh said that Congress had voiced similar views in the past after huge notional losses were projected in reports on 2G and coal allocation scams. The CAG reports on 2G telecom spectrum allocation and coal mine allotment which carried figures of notional losses to the tune of Rs1.76 lakh crore and Rs1.84 lakh crore respectively had caused tremendous discomfort for the UPA Government and the Congress party that headed the coalition. They had come in handy for the Opposition to attack the government on the issue of corruption.
On Monday, Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee Chairman and senior Congress leader KV Thomas too had said in the conference that the auditor should restrict audits to financial impropriety and not come out with “astronomical” figures of notional losses.
On the issue of blackmoney, Singh said that is the Government has a bit of courage then it should reveal the name of those having black money accounts. He accused the Modi-led BJP Government of failing its promises made during election rallies of bringing back the black money within 100 days and depositing three lakh rupees in the individual accounts of every person.
“Now when Jan Dhan scheme has been launched and bank accounts have been opened people should send the account number to the Prime Minister’s office and Rs 3-5would be deposited in their accounts immediately. You go and ask the BJP people when the money is getting deposited,” he said.
Taking a dig at Jaitley, Digvijay said, “If assets of the BJP leaders of both the houses are taken into account his (Jaitley’s) had grown maximum between 2009 to 2014, even though he had stopped practising.”
