Differences in Cong over stir on August Kranti Diwas

Congress’ proposed stir on the occasion of ‘August Kranti Diwas’ on August 9, received a setback due to differences between district functionaries and members of the newly-formed ‘Jan Andolan Cell’ (public agitation Committee).

Sources in the Congress confirmed that the manner in which UP Congress Jan Andolan Cell incharge Swayam Prakash Goswami nominated about 400 deputies without consulting any district, city or even senior leaders, majority of part workers have decided to keep themselves aloof from the party’s proposed ‘Kisan Bachao Congress lao—Rozgar lao youth bachao’ stir which is to start on Wednesday.

“Why should we support the stir when we are not consulted before fixing programmes or while office bearers of Jan Andolan Committee were nominated,” said a district Congress chief of a eastern UP.

“The party used to organise programmes to remember freedom fighters on ‘Kranti Diwas’ on August 9. This year too, we will continue with such programmes and keep ourselves away from ‘jail bharo andolan’,” he said.

Another Congress leader questioned the elevation of Goswami as Chairman of the Cell. “The man who left the party after levelling serious charges on our leadership a year back, has now been nominated as Chairman of Janandolan Committee and also beeen given a free hand to set up a team without consulting senior leaders. How can a man who lost faith in the party just a year back could revive the party is anybody’s guess.”

Meanwhile, Janandolan Committee chief Goswami said in lucknow on Tuesday that several issues would be taken up during the protest including GST and the failures of Modi government.
