With general elections knocking at the door, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday told an Eid congregation what her Government was planning to do for the Muslims in the coming years.
Addressing a mammoth crowd assembled in Kolkata to offer the Eid prayers, the Chief Minister said her Government was planning to reserve seats for the minorities in higher education.
“We want the Muslims to become engineers, doctors and IAS officers so we have decided give them reservation in higher studies so that they can also fulfil their dreams” Banerjee said soon after the Eid prayers. The new reservation policy would start from the next year.
“We have done a whole lot of works for the Muslims. We have constructed market complexes, minority bhavans and Haj houses in the districts and would continue our good work,” Banerjee who was flanked by a galaxy of Imams said.
The Muslim youth would be given business opportunities so that they can be included in the development process, she said.
The Muslims have continued their support for the Chief Minister in the just-concluded panchayat elections where the Trinamool Congress won by a thumping majority.
