Didi's differential treatment to martyrs, Hajis, irks Twitteratti

A day after Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee flung an indecorous pittance at the family of an Uri martyr which was eventually turned down with a befitting disdain by the martyred Army man’s father the Twitteratti seemed to explode with contempt for what many termed “Trinamool type of nationalism or secularism” so to say.

Hours after Onkarnath Dolui the father of Gangadhar Dolui a jawan who was martyred in Uri attack declined to accept `2 lakh compensation from the Chief Minister many on Twitter questioned the logic behind “humiliating a martyr.”

“The amount offered is sheer humiliation to a martyr. We will not accept it. It seems the Government treats a martyr and the people who die after consuming hooch on par. Or else what is the reason behind insulting a martyr by offering his kin `2 lakh that was given to the hooch victims,” Onkarnath a resident of Jamunbalia in Howrah district wondered even as the local MlA and Minister Arup Roy helplessly said he had “no control over such grants.”

The family of another martyr Biswajit Gorai however would not mince words saying they were not in a mental frame to converse on such issues.

The Twittertti on its part exploded comparing the two grants offered by the same Chief Minister: the first a hefty `10 lakh to a Haj pilgrim who died in a motor crash in Mecca and the second Gangadhar Dolui who died at the border.

A Government gave `2 lakhs for Uri Attack martyrs. The same Government “gave 10 lakhs for victims who were killed in Hajj accident. long live secularism!” screamed a user.

Meanwhile, quick response teams and State IB sleuths on Thursday were out on the streets patrolling the Durga Puja-bound malls and busy intersections of Kolkata, police sources said.

The Kolkata STF went on a high alert following Uran development where two children allegedly saw armed terror moles on Thursday morning.

“We are not going to take any chances and have put the city and the regions on high alert” said a senior police officer adding “the plain-clothe policemen were patrolling busy markets for suspicious people.

Police vehicles literally invaded busy areas like the Park Street, Esplanade, Gariahat, Shyambazar, Hazra and other places, sources said.
