With big ticket investment eluding West Bengal as a matter of habit in the post-Nano era, CM Mamata Banerjee has once again called upon the investors to “look East and look Kolkata” which throws open a vast hinterland till the North East and opens up opportunities beyond the borders in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal etal.
Speaking at a function organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries, the Chief Minister, who work nonstop and throughout the day for the development of the State and improving the industrial scenario, on Wednesday said her Government was committed to speedy clearance of projects.
Admitting that there were often delays in getting the projects cleared notwithstanding the existence of a single-window system Banerjee said, “Our Government is doing its best but still sometimes the industries face some problem as there are many departments involved in the process and clearance must come from all of them.”
Saying that the Government was setting up a five-member empowered group “to coordinate the work among land, industry, power finance departments” to give speedy clearances to the projects Banerjee said it would be ensured that the prospective investors would never had to wait on account of unnecessary delays.
On the availability (or scarcity) of land, the CM said land had never been a problem in her State provided those were used properly. “We have large tracts of land at Haldia, Baruipur, Banarhat in North Bengal and Bolpur,” she insisted calling upon the investors to join India’s “look-east” policy and make Kolkata their destination.
